Horsemanship Lessons
Spending time with horses is about much more than riding
Spending time with horses is about much more than riding. It is about developing a relationship, a partnership, and learning to communicate with them in a way that the horse understands. Horsemanship is about a philiosophy that recognizes horses as sentient beings who do best in relationships based on reciprocal learning, trust and mutual respect. With input from over 100 different individuals, the International Federation for Equestrian Sports found that good horsemanship consists of the following fourteen elements:
- Comprehensive Knowledge
- Practical Experience
- Growth Mindset
- Respect for the Horse
- Ecological Empathy
- Effective Application of Learning Theory
- Use of Body Language
- Commitment to Equine Welfare
- Emotional Intelligence
- Humility and Integrity
- Adaptability
- Patience
- Treatment of Support Team
- Mutual Symbiotic Relationship
- The Complex Nature of Art & Beauty
