It was another super busy week at The Barefoot Ranch. Tuesday we hit a real milestone that we’ve been working long and hard for. We got our registered charity status. This is a huge step forward for us and for the animals in our care. We are now able to give tax receipts for all donations over $20, we are also now able to get government and corporate grants and corporations can receive tax receipts for their donations as well. We can’t wait to see where this takes us.
On Wednesday, we gave a tour to a very special family that chose to request donations be sent to us in lieu of flowers when they lost their loved one Brian Davies. We were so incredibly honoured that they chose to give us this gift in his name.
Thursday we headed out, South of Virden to pick up two horses urgently who were in need of our care. We picked up Cheyenne and Ranger and brought them to the Ranch. They both seem to be in pretty good health, they are in serious need of some hoof trimming and Ranger needs to be gelded. We will be taking care of that at our next vet appointment on June 6th.
Saturday we had a few volunteers out getting everything ready for our open house on Sunday. We got a lot of work done and couldn’t wait for Sunday to welcome everyone in.
Sunday, of course, was our open house. We were incredibly humbled to have 262 people walk through our gates. They enjoyed the petting zoo, pony rides, horse rides, face painting, on-site vendors and hotdogs and drinks. People in attendance were able to feed the animals apples and carrots, unbelievably for the first time ever we ran out of apples and carrots, twice. We ended up needing to get two horses giving horse rides because this was such a popular activity. The line ups were awesome, we are so amazed by the turnout and the support. We raised a total of $2,862.60 today to benefit the animals, part of this money will go towards some of our hay bill from last winter, some will go towards our next vet appointment and the rest will go towards fixing fence and building new pens.
